A small-scale, interfaculty programme

Lifestyle and Chronic Disorders is a select programme: no more than thirty students are admitted each year. The course is organized jointly by the Institute of Health Sciences of the Faculty of Earth and Life Sciences at VU University Amsterdam and the EMGO Institute at VU University Medical Centre.

Approach from variety of disciplines
The research Master’s in Lifestyle and Chronic Disorders is unique in approaching its subject from a variety of disciplines. As a student, you will be making use of knowledge drawn from psychology and psychiatry to nutritional sciences, physiotherapy, medical rehabilitation, occupational medicine, family medicine and epidemiology.

Experienced tutors
Your tutors all hold relevant PhD's and are themselves internationally well-recognised researchers with ample expertise in research on lifestyle and chronic disorders and outstanding track records. A number of outside experts are also closely associated with the programme.

Practical focus
The second year of this two-year programme includes student placements. During this period you will learn in practice how to carry out research on important topics in the health sciences. This experience will stand in good stead for the rest of your scientific career.
