Expertise

Don van den Biggelaar has a background in Archaeology and Geoarchaeology (specialisation Landscape Archaeology). His key interests are:
  • Archaeology
  • Physical Geography
  • GIS
  • Cultural and natural heritage

Currently, he is working as a PhD candidate within the multidisciplinary project ‘Biography of the New Land’ of the interfaculty research institute CLUE (VU University) in collaboration with the Province of Flevoland (via Nieuwland Heritage Centre, Lelystad).
The overall aim of the project ‘Biography of the New Land’, with 5 PhD projects in various disciplines, is to provide Flevoland (central Netherlands) with a regional identity. The various disciplines involved in this project are: cultural history, water management history, public administration, economics and geoarchaeology.

His PhD research at the Institute for Geo- and Bioarchaeology (IGBA) focuses on the landscape and occupation history of Flevoland (last 200 000 years).
