Expertise
Mineralogy, petrology and microscopic petrography.
Kees Linthout is a geologist with field experience in metamorphics and ultramafics of the Banda Arc in Indonesia; Alpine and Variscan ranges of Spain; Caledonian of Scotland and Argentina, and Precambrian of Tanzania and Scandinavia. Publications are mostly based on own geological fieldwork. Several papers, however, result from co-operation with workers in other disciplines -- structural geology, sedimentology, oceanography, hydrogeology, and archaeology -- who needed the expertise of a geologist specialized in petrology and mineralogy. Current geoarchaeological projects aim at uncovering the provenance of basalt blocks found at Roman sites in the Netherlands.
Other activities
Former representative of the Netherlands in the Amphibole subcommittee of the International Mineralogical Association (1987-1998) and of the Commision on New Minerals and Mineral Names of the International Mineralogical Association for (2002-2007).
