Research Interests

My research focus is related to researching the causes and consequences of child undernutrition as well as overweight and obesity.  In particular, current research focuses on the inter-relationships between infectious disease in child nutrition. Planned research in Guatemala will focus on infant and child diarrhea related to early child feeding practices. My research explores similar questions in multiple settings using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. My primary, ongoing, collaborations are in South Africa and Guatemala.

Professional employment history

I have been a lecturer in the Department of Health Sciences at the VU since 2003. Since then I have had collaborations in South Africa, Guatemala and India. I have worked with the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI) Europe, theWorld Health Organization, the World Food Programme.
