Short biography

Prof. Dr. A.J. Schuit is senior researcher in the field of health promotion and health policy. Her expertise covers both effectiveness of individual lifestyle interventions as well as community based interventions. Furthermore she directs research in the field of (multi-sector) health policy. Dr Schuit has a part-time position as associate professor in that area at the VU university in Amsterdam. Furthermore she works at the National Institute of Public Health and Environment as Team director Health Promotion and Health Policy. She is project leader of several research projects investigating the effectiveness of lifestyle interventions in various settings (community, home, school and work) and age groups (adolescents, young adults, and elderly). In additions she supervises epidemiological research in the field of physical activity and health. She supervises several PhD students and is (co)author of more than 60 national and international publications in the field of epidemiology and health promotion. Most publications are related to physical activity and prevention of overweight. She is member of the Board of the Dutch Society for Public Health and Science and participates in several committees in the field of health promotion.
