Introduction
Sabine Makkes got her bachelor of science in biomedical sciences at Leiden University in 2005. After working for one year, in 2008 she graduated at the VU University Amsterdam in Health Sciences. In 2009 she started working at the VU University at the Institute of Health Sciences, Faculty of Earth and Life Sciences as a PhD candidate. The research project she is currently working on is HELIOS. The objective of this study is to compare the cost-effectiveness of two intensive one-year interventions in severely obese children and adolescents in comparison with each other and with usual care (waiting list control). The two interventions are different with respect to the length of the hospitalisation period.
