Molecular Microbiology

The Department of Molecular Microbiology (MM) is embedded in
the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB)
of the Faculty of Earth and Life Sciences of the VU University Amsterdam,
and is part of the BioCentrum Amsterdam

 
We investigate molecular mechanisms of protein secretion pathways in bacteria
and structure-function relationships of proteins, chaperones, targeting factors and
translocators involved in translocation processes. In particular,
we focus on the targeting, insertion and formation of inner membrane proteins,
and on the transport of proteins (virulence factors) across the periplasm
and across the outer membrane.
